Just a quick post about what I’ll be up to this school year. Get in touch with any inquiries!
Community Dance Education with Boston Ballet
I am excitedly preparing to kick off my second season as a faculty member with Boston Ballet’s Education & Community Initiatives. I will be leading three weekly “ECI on Location” after-school classes at community sites in Dorchester, Southie, and East Boston for students in grades 3-5. Teachers and staff have worked hard this summer to align curriculum with both Boston Ballet School and Boston Public Schools arts education standards, and I am looking forward to putting all this information into practice and delivering a rich, empowering experience for my students.
In addition, we are kicking off Citydance Act I this week, going into over 120 third grade classrooms across BPS neighborhoods and delivering workshops introducing students to the world of dance through storytelling, music, and movement. This phase of the program allows teaching teams to select participants for Citydance Act II, where exceptionally engaged students are offered a free 10-week course in ballet and world dance classes at the Boston Ballet studios!
Lastly, I am thrilled to once again be co-leading the monthly “Story Time” series at four Boston Public Library locations (South Boston, Charlestown, Hyde Park, and West End). If you have a little one at home, come read, imagine, and move with us! Check with your local branch for scheduling info.
In the Studio
I am returning for a second season to LINX Dance Studio in Wellesley, MA, teaching Modern Technique as well as Fundamentals of Choreography. I am also choreographing solos and group pieces for advanced dancers at Wilmington Dance Academy and leading 8-week supplementary courses on various contemporary dance and healthy practice topics.
In addition, I will be teaching an adult drop-in contemporary class at The Dance Complex in October as part of the Midday Movement “Midday Shuffle” class series! Save the date: Thursday Oct. 26th | 12pm-2pm | $5 drop-in | The Dance Complex, 536 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA
Creative Practice
Last but definitely not least! I have made it a goal for myself to focus more energy this year on my own artistic projects and performance work, alongside my teaching practice. Now that I’ve been home from London for a year and have put some roots down as a teacher, I am very eager to spend more time cultivating my artist-self again.
I had a truly beautiful experience performing with Zoe Dance Company earlier in September at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, and am also spending more time in the studio researching new movement structures using text as a starting point. Behind the scenes, I am applying for my first ever grant funding as an individual artist and am aiming to get a Kickstarter up and running over the winter for the dance film version of “Deviation, Twice Removed.” I am very excited to have award-winning filmmaker Nolan Yee already on board as a collaborator! Check out the amazing site we’ve picked out for the shoot (coming Spring 2018)!
Stay tuned for more project, artistic development, and performance updates in the coming months!
